This historical story begins as Sarah says goodbye to her father, who is setting sail for a long journey to India. Sarah desperately wants to go with her father, but he refuses to take her because of the danger involved. Left behind with a seemingly unkind Aunt, Sarah decides to cut off her hair and dress like a boy in the hope that she can sneak aboard the ship.
