This volume shows teachers and curriculum developers how to translate the Next Generation Science Standards into curriculum and classroom instruction in the elementary, middle, and high school grades. It answers questions about translating them, offers insights about reforming curriculum, and provides examples of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. It outlines A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas, the basis for the standards; their architecture and language; the contexts needed for translation and the use of the standards in school science programs; and frequently asked questions. It details their translation to various grades, with examples of lessons and assessments, and a process of translating them that integrates the dimensions of science and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas, as well as addressing common concerns. Bybee, a former science educator and director of a nonprofit organization that develops curriculum materials, provides professional development, and conducts research and evaluation in science education, was involved in the development of the National Science Education Standards.
