She has deep experience at every level of the education system, as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and federal change leader. As a co-founder of The Learner First, Joanne unashamedly focuses, inspires, and motivates learners, parents, educators, communities and system leaders to put The Learner First, dramatically lifting the performance of education systems to accelerate exactly the learners who have been left behind. Drawing on deep expertise in creating change at every level of the K-12 system, Joanne has delivered numerous keynote addresses and professional learning workshops to educators internationally (Finland, USA, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Uruguay, Australia, and New Zealand) on topics such as Whole System Change, Educational Leadership, Authentic Mixed Method Assessment, and Digital Education. Joanne also serves as Global New Measures Director of New Pedagogies for Deep Learning: A Global Partnership, where she works alongside Dr. Michael Fullan and Joanne Quinn. This initiative has reached thousands of schools and includes countries such as Australia, Canada, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, United States, and Uruguay. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Joanne was best known for her leadership in the design and implementation of a major (Federal Government Level) system alignment for the Ministry of Education in New Zealand, where she was responsible for the performance and outcomes of up to 2,600 schools. This multi-pronged approach included targeted change management assistance for schools, a redesign of the system for funding and allocating professional development, and the redesign of PLC’s as "school cluster" Learning and Change networks.
