This book is intended as a resource for school leaders as they work with teachers to make the formative assessment process an integral part of classroom culture. Emphasis is on classroom-level practices that empower students to learn how to learn. The book begins with an overview of the formative assessment process, followed by six chapters organized around six elements of the process. These chapters describe practical ways that school leaders can model and use the elements of the formative assessment process during conversations with teachers in formal classroom observation, informal classroom walk-throughs, and meetings. Chapter scenarios and reflection questions are included, along with summary charts of key concepts and strategies. Moss teaches at Duquesne University.
